Pumpkin: Falls Notorious Nutritional Powerhouse

It’s officially pumpkin season, and while pumpkin may be best known for lattes, pies, and everything pumpkin spice, this fall favorite goes beyond its seasonal popularity. Pumpkin is packed with nutrients that can make it a flavorful addition to a balanced diet, making it worth celebrating long after the first signs of fall.

One of pumpkin’s standout nutrients is vitamin A. Its rich color comes from beta carotene, which the body converts into vitamin A. Vitamin A plays an important role in maintaining healthy vision, supporting the immune system, promoting healthy skin and bones, and helping regulate cell growth. Pumpkin is also a good source of potassium, a mineral that supports muscle function, fluid balance, and healthy blood pressure.

Pumpkin also brings fiber to the table. Mayo Clinic Health System notes that just one half cup of canned, 100% pumpkin provides about 4 grams of fiber while being naturally low in fat and calories. Fiber can help support digestive health and contribute to a satisfying meal or snack.

And don't forget about the seeds. Pumpkin seeds contain protein, fiber, minerals including magnesium, zinc, iron, and phosphorus, along with heart healthy unsaturated fats. So while the pumpkin itself gets most of the seasonal attention, the seeds deserve a little recognition too.

At BARE Blends, pumpkin is one of the flavors that makes fall feel like fall. Try it in our Pumpkin Spice Latte Bowl, Pumpkin Chai Smoothie, and quick bites like the Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Oat Bars and Pumpkin Spice Overnight Oats.
